The Green Man

Why do you get that funny feeling?
When you’re lying on your bed, staring at the ceiling
You’ve been sent to bed, and it’s still not the evening
Someone is calling you to play outside
It’s the Green Man
He’s in the meadow. Now he’s in the forest
He wants you to go and explore it
His welcome is the warmest
There’s a sound that reaches your ears
And you should listen up, grown-ups!

How do you make it out of the house?
You creep like a cat, and squeak like a mouse.
Slip like a snake, then strut like a grouse!
The grass is there to tickle your feet
and send a signal that makes you happy
The trees are there to help you grow
Wrestle with you and stretch your toes
The more you climb, the more you know
When your hands touch trees and your feet touch grass
It makes you feel like a deer

Now you can hop and stride and kick
all the way home, that’s the trick!
Safer and stronger, so slick and so quick!
Back into bed, as snug as a bug
You can achieve anything thanks to the Green Man
